A Portadown man accused of assaulting a male causing grievous bodily harm after being disorderly in a local bar will face Crown Court proceedings in the New Year.
Bail conditions placed on the 51-year-old include a ban from consuming alcohol or being on licensed premises.
Neal Thornton, of The Willows, appeared charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, disorderly behaviour in a licensed premises and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.
As the charges were read, it was heard that the alleged offence occurred on September 19 of this year.
The disorderly behaviour is alleged to have occurred in The Mix Bar, Thomas Street in Portadown, with Thornton accused of being in possession of a glass and a bar stool.
Standing in the dock, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence solicitor made no contrary submissions.
Thornton was released on his own bail of £500, with a surety also put forward by his brother, to appear at Craigavon Crown Court on January 17.
He will appear at the same court on January 23 for arraignment.
Conditions of the defendant’s bail included; not to enter Thomas Street, Market Street, Woodhouse Street, High Street or Obin Street in Portadown, not to entered licensed premises, not to consume or possess alcohol and to have no contact with the injured party or any of the witnesses in the case.
