Another Co Armagh leisure centre deemed surplus to requirements with the opening of the new £30 million South Lake complex is in line for demolition.
Cascades – like Waves in Lurgan – is to be razed to the ground.
And Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has now gone out to tender to have it torn down and find the contractor fit to see the job through.
The Portadown leisure centre shut as ABC Council decided to focus its recreational interests in the one venue at Craigavon. Brownlow Leisure Centre in Craigavon also closed.
Work started last month on demolition of Waves at Robert Street in Lurgan, the third of the no-longer-needed venues.
Council had gone out to tender for the contract for the demolition there.
That project – with a value in excess of £200,000 according to Construction Information Services – was awarded to Newtown Ground Engineering, based in Newtownards, County Down.
Now council has again gone out to tender in the hope of awarding another tender to tear down the Cascades development at Thomas Street in Portadown.
Interested parties have until January 15 to make a submission.
The demolition – which will also involve subsequent siteworks – is to be completed within a five month timeframe from the date of appointment.
