The case of a Portadown paedophile who spent Christmas behind bars has been adjourned for one week due to the ongoing failure to find him a suitable bail address.
Kevin Christy, 41, of Park Road, appeared in Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry, charged with the alleged breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).
The hearing had been listed in court papers for the investigating officer to attend. As they were not present, it was requested the case be adjourned to check for an update.
Conor Lunny BL, defending, described the lack of an update in the case as “regrettable”.
He said: “The situation is Mr Christy has been granted bail but can’t perfect it because of the very same issue which gives rise to the charge – the address at which he had been residing has been deemed unsuitable by the DRM [designated risk manager] and that really substantiates the breach charge.”
District Judge White adjourned the case for one week for update.
