County Armagh man claimed almost £40,000 in benefits he was not entitled to

A county Armagh man has been convicted after claiming £40,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Mark McLean, 49, of Ballyoran Park, Portadown was convicted at Craigavon Crown Court on Tuesday.

He claimed Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £39,643 while failing to declare capital.

He was given an 18 month prison sentence suspended for three years.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
