A multi-million pound project which will transform the centre of Portadown is expected to get underway in January.
The so-called ‘Portadown linkages’ scheme will cost in the region of £2.8 million.
The work will include resurfacing and landscaping, as well as street furniture and street lighting, among other things.
Areas to benefit will be Castle Street, Bridge Street, Meadow Lane, Obins Street, Craigwell Avenue, Woodhouse Street and West Street.
The Department of the Communities has confirmed funding of £2 million will be provided and made available during the next two financial years.
A formal letter of offer will be issued during the summer months.
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council will be contributing up to £800,000 towards the project.
Planning approval has already been given for the works to be carried out and detailed designs are complete.
The process to appoint a lead contractor has also started and, council has been told, the intention is to begin ‘on site’ in January of next year. The contractor should be made known in August.
Design and further information will be made public later in the year.
