A Loughgall man has been ordered to pay a fine of £500 for an assault on police dating back to 2018.
The 38-year-old’s barrister told court: “He is now in full time employment, he has a young daughter and he seems to have put his offending behind him. Working seems to have focused his mind, as has his daughter.”
William Errol Lennon, of Loughgall Mews, pleaded guilty to resisting police, assault on police and disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that at 2am on December 15, 2018, police were tasked to a disturbance involving multiple persons in Portadown.
Upon arrival, the defendant was amongst a group who were squaring up to other parties acting aggressively.
Lennon then pushed one of the officers and threw a punch at their head. He was taken to the ground where he shouted in an aggressive manner.
Defence barrister David McKeown stated: “This is a very old case. Mr Lennon has lived in the Loughgall and Portadown area throughout that time and there is no reason why this has not been dealt with.
“He is now in full time employment, he has a young daughter and he seems to have put his offending behind him. Working seems to have focused his mind, as has his daughter.”
He added: “Over the years, Mr Lennon has not had his troubles to seek but I am confident in saying that this is hopefully the last time your worship will have to deal with him.”
The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £500, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 16 weeks.
