A Lurgan man who exposed his “buttocks and testicles” to police and members of the public has been handed a suspended period of imprisonment.
The 34-year-old’s barrister told court his client had taken alcohol to “celebrate/self-medicate” which led to these offences.
Jason Joseph Creaney, of Victoria Place, pleaded guilty to indecent behaviour, disorderly behaviour, assault on police and criminal damage at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Prosecution outlined that on July 31, at around 12.40am, police on patrol in the West Street area of Portadown observed this defendant walk into the middle of the road.
He then proceeded to turn his back to police and members of the public, before pulling down his jogging bottoms and pants to his ankles exposing his buttocks and testicles.
When spoken to by police, Creaney became agitated refusing to provide his details to police but they were able to ascertain these quickly.
He was arrested and put in the rear of a police vehicle. He continued to be aggressive shouting at officers phrases such as “you f***ing rat” and “w****r”.
Whilst en route to Lurgan police station, Creaney spat at the back of a constable’s head and on the window of the vehicle.
When interviewed, the defendant made no admissions to the offences.
District Judge Bernie Kelly commented that Creaney’s record appeared to be littered with a “thread of intoxicants”.
Defence barrister David McKeown stated that his client had “serious health problems”.
He commented that to “celebrate/self-medicate” Creaney decided to take alcohol but now realised this was a foolish decision.
District Judge Kelly stated: “There’s a fine line between someone who has your client’s difficulties but insists on breaching medical advice and behaving in this fashion as a result.
“There will come a point if he doesn’t do something about this where he will end up in custody regardless.”
Addressing the defendant, she said: “Your behaviour on this occasion was reprehensible. This is not any way to behave. You do appear to have a problem and your record appears to bear that out in terms of intoxication.”
Creaney was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for a period of two years.
