Police have confirmed the identity of an elderly man killed in a one-vehicle road traffic collision earlier today (Wednesday).

He was 93-year-old John Joseph Milsop from the Portadown area.

Mr Milsop was he driver of a red Nissan Micra car that was involved in a single vehicle collision around 2.20pm on the Derrycoose Road in Annaghmore.

The Derrycoose Road has since re-opened.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

DUP MLA Jonny Buckley, who knew Mr Milsop, described him as a highly respected member of the local community.

“I know the gentleman and the family,” he said.

“It’s very sad to hear that another life on our roads has been lost.

“This gentleman was a very well-respected and long-standing member of the community.

“It was a one-vehicle collision involving an elderly man and I understand that the car left the road, going through a hedge into a field.

“It’s heart-breaking that this has happened at the mouth of Christmas, with a family left with one less face at the table this festive season.

“I would urge everyone to take extra care on our roads, and be safe this winter.”

Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this tragic time.
