Craigavon Magistrates Court

A man accused of multiple fraud and burglary offences will face Crown Court proceedings in March.

The 25-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Vasile-Dan Moldovan, of no fixed abode, is charged with two counts of burglary, eight counts of fraud by false representation and theft.

As these charges were read, it was heard that all are alleged to have occurred between April 19 and April 30, of last year.

The particulars outline that both burglaries are alleged to have occurred on April 30 at addresses on Brownstown Park and Fitzroy Street, in Portadown.

Moldovan is accused of stealing items including bank cards, cash, an identity card, a driving licence and other personal items from these dwellings.

On April 19, the defendant is alleged to have stolen a wallet containing a Santander card, £200 cash and religious medals to the value of £10.

The alleged fraud offences are all said to have occurred also on April 30 and relate to the use of stolen credit cards at multiple stores.

Appearing in via videolink from Maghaberry, Moldovan made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister David McKeown made no contrary submissions.

Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer and the defendant was remanded in custody to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on March 5 for arraignment.
