Police appeal for witnesses to Mahon Road accident as teenage boy remains critical

Police have appealed for witnesses to the horrific road accident which left five young people injured.

It happened on the Mahon Road, in the Drumnakelly area of Portadown, late on Wednesday evening.

Police said it was reported to them at around 9.40pm that the driver of a silver Renault Clio lost control of the vehicle.

“This resulted in the car driving through a wire fence and ending up overturned onto its roof in a concrete yard,” explained Sergeant Gibson.

Five teenagers – three boys and two girls – were injured.

Two of the boys were critically injured, with one transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

He remains critical, but the other boy has now been described as stable. He remains in Craigavon Area Hospital, as do the third male and one of the two girls, both also described as being stable. The fifth person travelling in the vehicle was discharged.

Sergeant Gibson added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information regarding the collision to contact police in Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 12/10/16.

“Or, alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
