A teenager who tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) has been named locally as Ross Capper.
The 18-year-old died after the car he was travelling in crashed a short distance from his home on the Dungannon Road in Portadown.
The accident happened around 12.30am.
Ross, who studied at Portadown College, was the beloved son of Eric and Avril, and brother of Scott, Aaron, Adam and Ben.
Local MLA, Jonathan Buckley, who knows the family very well says he has been devastated by the news.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the immediate and extended family whom I have known all my life,” said Mr Buckley.
“I know I speak for the entire community when I say that this family is held in such high regard.
“I have no doubt that as they, alongside the wider community try and come to terms with what has happened today, they will rally around and comfort one another at this difficult time.”
Ross had been a member of 5th Portadown Boys’ Brigade Tartaraghan.
The company paid tribute on social media, writing on Facebook: “The Captain, Officers and Boys’ of 5th Portadown (Tartaraghan) Boys’ Brigade Company are heartbroken to learn of the death of their esteemed member, Ross Capper and extend to his parents, brothers and entire family circle our sincere condolences.”
One close friend, also posting on Facebook, simply said: “RIP Ross, love you mate party hard. I’ll miss you till I see you again.”
His funeral service will be held in Portadown Baptist Church (Thomas Street) on Saturday at 1pm, followed by interment in Tartaraghan Parish Churchyard.
