The molar the merrier: Eight-strong Portadown dental team braced for charity skydive!

"I had previously done a skydive for the Cancer Fund for Children when I lost my sister-in-law to cancer, as that was the charity she always supported and asked our family to continue that after she passed."

Dental skydive Portadown

An eight-strong team of friends and colleagues at a County Armagh dental surgery are preparing a super skydive for a very worthy cause.

You know the drill with the team at {my}dentist Portadown – they like to make an impression!

So when the option to take part in a skydive came about, they thought why not – the molar the merrier!

And so, on September 23, the adventurous eight – alongside their area manager Billy – will be bracing themselves for a parachute jump from the dizzy heights of 15,000 feet!

And the idea is to extract as big a sum as possible from the kind-hearted public, with all of the money raised in aid of  the Cancer Fund for Children.

One of those taking part is Louise Ferguson.

She has managed to talk her friends and colleagues into taking part and admits nerves are kicking in.

For Louise, she has faced such a challenge before, but it’s not going to be something you ever get used to.

But together the brave band will be supporting each other and counting down the days – while racking up the cash.

Alongside the parachute jump, the rest of the team – keeping their feet firmly on the ground – will be involved in other fundraising events in the next few months, so do keep an eye out!

Louise is hoping that people will dig deep and help them help an “amazing charity” to help others at their time of need.

It is a charity close to many people’s hearts and most families will know someone who has been directly affected by cancer.

Louise told Armagh I: “I had previously done a skydive for the Cancer Fund for Children when I lost my sister-in-law to cancer, as that was the charity she always supported and asked our family to continue that after she passed.

“Talking about it in work then has inspired my colleagues to raise money for the charity as well and, as most of them are petrified of heights or flying, we thought it would be a good idea raising money while really being challenged.

“A marathon, etc, wouldn’t have cut it, as we have some runners among us, so we agreed we had to push ourselves out of our comfort zone or out of a plane!”

A few pounds – even a few pence – if everyone gave a little it would mean a lot!

And don’t forget – it is for a fantastic cause.

“All this is in aid of this amazing charity,” added Louise. “We would be very grateful for your support and donations for their invaluable work, which supports children and their families through the most difficult times.”
