
A Co Armagh community is in mourning following the death of a teenager in a road traffic collision in Portadown on Sunday morning.
Morgan Henry, who was just 18, was from Castle Rise in Tandragee was the second young man to lose his life on local roads this weekend.
He was the driver of a car involved in the crash in which four others were injured.
DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley said he was “saddened to learn of another young life lost on the Dungannon Road, Portadown this morning, 18-year-old Morgan Henry”.
“My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to Morgan’s family,” he added.
Alliance MLA Eoin Tennyson added: “I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the loss of another young life on the Dungannon Road in the early hours of this morning.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to Morgan Henry’s family, friends and loved ones as they come to terms with this unimaginable loss. The local community is heartbroken.
“I want to thank the emergency services who attended the scene and would encourage anyone who witnessed what happened or may possess dashcam or CCTV footage to bring this to the attention of the PSNI.”
Morgan’s former football club, Tandragee Rovers FC, also paid tribute, posting: “Everyone at Tandragee Rovers is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of our former player, Morgan Henry.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lauren, Gareth, Reuben, Cherith and the wider family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Tandragee Primary School added: “On behalf of the school community of Tandragee Primary School, we would like to pass on our heartfelt condolences to the Henry family at this most difficult of times.
“Words cannot express the sadness that we feel at the passing of such a capable, fun-loving and well-liked young man. Morgan will be fondly remembered by all, and his friends and family are very much in our thoughts and prayers.”
And tributes have continued to pour in for a young man who will be sorely missed by so many who knew him.
Roads Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At approximately 1.40am, police received a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Dungannon Road involving a blue BMW 330 and a red Vauxhall Corsa.
“Officers, along with colleagues from other emergency services, attended, but sadly, Morgan, the driver of the Corsa, was declared deceased at the scene. Four occupants of the BMW have received medical treatment following the collision.
“The Dungannon Road was closed for a number of hours but has now re-opened.”
Milne Funeral Services posted: “Morgan Gareth Henry, 6th April 2025, tragically as the result of a road traffic collision, late of Castle Rise, Tandragee.
“Treasured son of Lauren and Gareth, loving brother of Reuben and Cherith, cherished grandson of Caroline and Colin Whitten and David and the late Doris Henry, a much-loved great-grandson of Kenny and Eleanor Matchett, also an adored boyfriend of Lara. Very deeply regretted and sadly missed by the entire family circle.”
The 18-year-old’s funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2pm in Mullavilly Parish Church with committal following in the adjoining graveyard.
