A Portadown woman who was spotted by an officer performing doughnuts in a car park in the snow has been disqualified from driving for 12 months in her absence.
Court heard that cars in an adjacent car park honked their horns and people cheered as the 27-year-old engaged in the manoeuvres.
Nichole Lavery, of George Street, was convicted in her absence of dangerous driving at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Friday.
The case had been listed for a contest but the defendant did not attend.
Defence solicitor John McAtamney stated that Lavery was unable to attend as she was on a holiday, which had already been booked.
It was heard that on February 11, at around 12.30am, a police officer on patrol of the Meadow Lane area of Portadown observed a car making doughnut style manoeuvres in a car park.
He noted that the car park was covered in snow and that a male was close to the vehicle filming the manoeuvres.
Cars in an adjacent car park honked their horns and people cheered on the defendant.
The car came to a stop in front of the male who had been filming and he stepped inside.
The officer spoke to driver, who identified herself as Lavery.
She was cautioned and made no reply.
The defendant was convicted in her absence, she was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
Mr McAtamney stated that the decision would be appealed but acknowledged that this could not be done in the absence of Lavery.
