A major disabled access guide for premises Armagh City and District has been launched.
It offers information to visitors and residents alike on just how accessible hundreds of local buildings are to those with a disability.
The Disabled Go Access Guide launch was hosted by Lord Mayor Cathy Rafferty during a reception at the Palace.
The guide for Armagh City & District is now available on www.disabledgo.com for FREE thanks to the support of Armagh City and District Council.
The Lord Mayor commented that significant work had been undertaken by the company Disabled Go in the development of the guide.
She said: “In fact over 450 public venues have been visited and assessed in person by a trained Disabled Go surveyor using a template of accessibility questions designed by disabled people, for disabled people.
“All sorts of venues are included in the guide, such as leisure centres, shops, hotels, restaurants, council buildings, community centres, places of worship and many more.”
Disabled Go look at accessibility from a disability perspective, so if you want to know whether somewhere has accessible parking, if there are steps or ramps to access a building, whether there is a hearing loop (and more importantly, if staff know how to use it), if signage and information is clear and available in large print or braille or if staff receive disability awareness training.

Lord Mayor Cathy Rafferty thanked all those who assisted in making suggestions about which venues should be included in the guide and urged everyone to take the opportunity to tell as many people of its availability.
