A Richhill man who caused other road users to take evasive action as he towed a trailer containing a 10 ft trampoline has been fined £200.
Court heard the 21-year-old told the police, after the item landed in the middle of the road, that he had been moving it for his partner and had only wished to travel a short distance.
Darren Campbell, of Sleepy Valley, was convicted in his absence of using a vehicle in a dangerous condition at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on March 6, police on patrol in Portadown spotted a Honda Civic towing a trailer which was carrying a 10 ft trampoline.
Officers noted that the trampoline was hanging off the trailer and impinging on the other side of the road forcing other road users to take evasive action.
They followed the vehicle onto the Gilford Road where the trampoline broke free and landed in the centre of the road, causing a vehicle behind to make an emergency stop.
After removing it from the road, police spoke to the defendant who said he had been moving items for his partner and had only been travelling a short distance.
Campbell was ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
