Richhill butcher’s shop raises tasty sum for life-saving charity

A BBQ held outside a village butcher’s shop in Richhill has raised funds for the NI Air Ambulance, thanks to the generosity of local residents and visitors.

The fundraising event took place in October during Richhill’s Apple Harvest Day, when Errol from Bawn Meats set up a BBQ at the front of the shop and donated all profits to the life-saving charity.

Explaining the motivation behind the fundraiser, shop owner Errol said the NI Air Ambulance is a cause “close to his heart”.

“It’s a very, very worthy cause and I just hope I, or any of my family and friends, never need it,” he said. “Thank u all so much who donated, special thanks to Doreen S, (you know who u are) special lady who made a large contribution.”

Customers and passers-by alike showed their support on the day, with many stopping to buy a burger while others simply dropped a few pounds into the donation bucket.

Together they raised a handsome £500 for the charity.

While times continue to be tough for small business owners across the county, Errol continues to see value in supporting those around him.

Looking ahead, Errol revealed plans for another fundraising effort in the coming months, with a static cycling challenge at the shop, aiming to clock up 1,000 miles once again in aid of the NI Air Ambulance.

“We will light the BBQ an have a bit of craic all for the Air Ambulance charity, local cyclists be aware I’m coming for you to get involved!” he said.
