Salt bins in local housing estates across the area should be kept topped up and accessible as a matter of urgency.
Fews Sinn Féin councillor Roisin Mulgrew was speaking today (Wednesday), having contacted DRD Roads Service in relation to salt boxes for John F Kennedy Park in Bessbrook.
“I have brought to the attention of Roads Service the need for salt boxes which need to be maintained in built-up areas,” she said.
“The Cloughreagh and Kennedy Park areas are notoriously dangerous, due to the fact that the streets are narrow and were never designed for traffic, but now that the cold weather has hit it is vital that ALL our areas are serviced with adequate measures to deal with frost and ice.”
Councillor Mulgrew advised anyone who identified a salt box that was in need of further grit to contact Newry Roads Service Office at 028 3025 3333 or to pass the details to herself at 07719 106871.
