Tandragee Neighbourhood Policing Team have seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £140,000, the PSNI confirmed today (Monday).
Officers from the team were on patrol in Richhill on Friday afternoon, June 13, when they observed a broken window in a vacant building on Portadown Road. Officers went to check the building and noted a strong smell of cannabis. The building was entered and a cannabis factory found.
Sergeant Russell Vogan, Tandragee NPT, said: “This is a sizeable quantity of cannabis which will not now make it on to the streets. This detection came about as the result of good, proactive and thorough police work, however, we can achieve so much more with the help of the public.
“Cannabis has a strong smell which is noticeable if you are close to a house where it is being cultivated. If you become aware of a noticeable smell from premises or notice activity around a building or house that you find suspicious, please contact us so that we can check it out.
“Our enquiries into this cannabis factory at Portadown Road are ongoing and I would ask anyone with information to contact us on the 101 non-emergency number.”
The discovery comes just two days after the discovery of what was described as a “sophisticated cannabis factory” in the Rowan Road area of Derrynoose.
On Wednesday, June 11, police were supporting an HMRC operation when they located the factory. A number of cannabis plants were seized.
The plants and equipment were removed and enquiries are ongoing.
Anyone with information can contact police in Armagh on the 101 non-emergency number.
