Shock and sadness have followed the death of a young Armagh man Mervyn Nicholl, just hours after taking part in a charity fundraiser.
Mervyn – who worked in Johnston’s Bakery – only turned 30 in May.
A member of Armagh True Blues Flute Band, he had last night taken part in the band’s annual fundraising parade around the city estates to raise money for charity.
A kind-hearted and caring young man, the popular Mervyn donned a Batman costume last night to join his bandmates in raising money for TinyLife.
The long-serving True Blues flautist helped the band raise £698.98p for the cause.
It was typical of Mervyn to want to help others and friends will remember someone who was always there for them, always willing to help and always full of fun.
Prior to working at Johnston’s Bakery, Mervyn was a familiar figure at Emerson’s Supermarket.
A past pupil of the Armstrong Primary School and City of Armagh High School, he made friends easily; people were just drawn to an affable young man, a kind and gentle individual who was popular with all he met.
The Armagh True Blues Flute Band announced Mervyn’s passing this morning on their Facebook page, expressing their “deepest regret” at the death of a long-serving and valued member of the band.
The post stated: “The whole band are deeply shocked and would like to express our deepest sympathies to the entire family circle at this sad time.”
We would like to extend our own sympathies to Mervyn’s family and many friends at this saddest of times.
