A well-known and popular south Armagh man, who fell ill while on holiday in Greece with his wife during the summer, has passed away.
Micéal Lynch, from Camlough, was enjoying a relaxing Mediterranean cruise, and was on the Greek island of Crete with his wife Jennifer, when he suddenly took ill.
Following weeks of tests on the island it was discovered that the 60-year-old had a tumour on his brain.
Sadly, after several months, Micéal’s brave battle came to an end on Monday, passing away peacefully at Daisy Hill Hospital.
His passing has shocked the community – a community Micéal and the Lynch family were steeped in.
A funeral notice described Micéal as the beloved husband of Jennifer and loving father of Sarah, Cahal, and Clare; father-in-law of Mathew, Kevin, and Aidan, and cherished grandfather of Erin, Noah, Luke, Jack, and Emma.
Caring son of Ethna and Mickey Lynch and son-in-law of Ellen and Paddy Devlin and dear brother of Damian, Paul and Martina.
Micéal’s remains are reposed at his home, 1 St. Brigid’s Park, Ballynabee Road, Camlough, BT35 7HE, from 12 noon until 10 pm on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday, November 15.
Funeral leaving Micéal’s home on Thursday, November 16, at 10am for 11 am Requiem Mass in the Church of St. Malachy, Carrickcruppen, Camlough. Interment afterward in the adjoining cemetery.
Carrickcruppen GAA said they were shocked and saddened at the untimely passing of “one of our great servants as a player and supporter”.
“We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Jennifer, to his children Sarah, Cahal and Clare. Mathew, Kevin and Aidan and Micéal’s grandchildren are also in our thoughts,” a Club spokesperson said.
“At this time of bereavement, we wish to offer a special word of sympathy to Micéal’s parents Mickey and Eithne. As Gaels, we stand in solidarity with his brothers, Damian and Paul and with his sister Martina and with all of Micéal’s family circle.
“The Lynch family have been, and continue to be, amongst our most industrious workers and most loyal supporters. With the loss of Micéal, the club like the family, have ‘lost one of our own’.
“Micéal’s recent, brief and sudden illness caused great concern amongst his life-long friends in Carrickcruppen GAA and in the community that we serve. Many participated in events designed to support Micéal’s battle against his illness. The high regard in which he was held, and the high regard in which his family are held was evident in the support offered to him in his battle for health by friends from the world of sport and from the Camlough, Bessbrook and Corrinshego communities. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.”
Micéal will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, son, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, parents, brothers, sister, parents-in-law, and entire family circle and friends.
