A south Armagh teenager who overturned his car with his four-year-old sister on board blamed a “lapse in concentration”.
TJ McCormack, 19, of Carnally Road, Silverbridge, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on May 17 police responded to reports of an overturned car on the Silverbridge Road.
The car McCormack was driving flipped after colliding with the bumper of another vehicle which was parked in a lay-by.
Court heard that there were no injuries to the defendant or his four-year-old sister who had been a passenger.
Defence counsel stated this was a “lapse in concentration” as his client took his eyes off the road to speak to his sister.
The defendant was handed three penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
