‘The most beautiful girl’: Community in shock at sudden passing of Newtownhamilton woman

Shionnainn McArdle

A south Armagh community has been left heartbroken following the sudden death of a young woman who passed away at her home on Saturday, October 3.

Shionnainn McArdle, of Dundalk Road, Newtownhamilton, was the beloved daughter of Oliver and Margaret, and cherished sister of Ollie (Ciara), Joleen (Seamus) and Shea. She was a much‑loved aunt to her nephews and nieces Ciaran, Aaron, Phelim, Leah, Rhys, Oisín, Meghan, Luke and Lorcán.

Her passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from family, friends and neighbours.

Sister Joleen paid an emotional tribute, saying: “So heartbroken losing you, words can’t describe the pain. Fly high my angel. Rest in peace, Shionnainn.”

Others described her as “an absolutely lovely person to talk to” and “the most beautiful girl”, reflecting the warmth and affection in which she was held.

Shionnainn will repose at her late residence, 73 Dundalk Road, Newtownhamilton (BT35 0PP) from Monday afternoon, with visitors welcome to pay their respects between 2pm and 9pm on both Monday and Tuesday.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, October 7. The cortège will leave her home at 11.15am – with the house strictly private to family only at that time – travelling to St Patrick’s Church, Cullyhanna for Requiem Mass at 12 noon.

The Mass will be livestreamed via the church webcam here.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Shionnainn is deeply regretted by her heartbroken parents, sister, brothers, brother‑in‑law, sister‑in‑law, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, the wider McArdle and McAnulty families, neighbours and her many friends.

Funeral enquiries are being handled by McConville Funeral Directors, established 1830, Tel: 028 3086 1212.
