A 13-year-old boy has has tragically died following an incident in Scarva on Monday afternoon.
It was reported that at around 3.30 pm, a boy had gone into the water in the area.
Officers attended the scene along with other emergency services colleagues, including the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and Air Ambulance NI.
The boy – who is understood to live in the village – was taken to hospital, where he tragically passed away.
The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they received a 999 call at 3.27pm following reports of an incident at Scarva Lake.
He told Armagh I : “NIAS despatched an emergency crew and ambulance officer to the scene where the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS crew on board were also tasked to the incident.
“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene a young male patient was taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital.”
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, commented: “Devastating news to hear of another family plunged into sorrow after the death of a young teenage boy.
“Please remember the family in your prayers as they come to terms with this harrowing tragedy. To the emergency services and anyone else who assisted, thank you.”
Councillors Paul Greenfield and Junior McCrum also said: “Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of the young boy.
“There are no words that comfort at this time or such loss. We know that the family will be much prayed for and supported by the local community.”
