A Tandragee husband and wife have been fined for driving without licence or insurance and permitting this to be done.
The 49-year-old, and his 47-year-old wife, of Mullanary Road, pleaded guilty at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to driving without a licence or insurance and permitting one to do so.
The incident occurred on December 13, last year, police stopped a black Volvo on the Madden Road, Tandragee, which had no valid insurance.
Police found the husband driving with his wife in the passenger seat, it was discovered that the husband did not have a licence.
Defence counsel explained that the wife had brain surgery two years ago and so needed to regularly attend hospital.
They added that she was often bed-ridden and relied on her husband to organise her insurance.
On the morning in question the wife had driven to the hospital with her husband; he then decided to drive her home, the court heard.
The defence told District Judge Paul Copeland that both had a clear record.
Judge Copeland ordered both to pay a fine of £75 on each charge, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
The husband received nine penalty points on his licence, while his wife was given six.
