Driver forced to pull over before being robbed at roadside in Tandragee

A driver was forced to pull over before being robbed by masked men armed with a gun in Tandragee this afternoon (Tuesday).

The man was travelling along the Laurelvale Road when he was ambushed by the suspected thieves around 2.15pm.

Local DUP councillor Alderman Gareth Wilson said the PSNI are fully investigating this incident and inquiries are ongoing.

He added: “The PSNI helicopter was tasked for observation purposes and I understand a man driving a car was forced to stop by the actions of individuals in another vehicle close to Laurelvale.

“When stopped, the man was forced to hand over a considerable sum of money.

“I understand the man was unharmed however this is a very sinister and concerning incident.

“I would appeal for the public to remain vigilant and continue to report any suspicious activity to the PSNI.”

Detective Sergeant Patterson said: “At around 2:15pm, it was reported that a car was driving along the Laurelvale Road this afternoon when a grey/silver coloured van pulled immediately in front of the car.

“Three men approached the driver side front door and threatened the driver, with a suspected firearm.

“The males made off with a sum of money and then drove towards the Armagh Road following the incident.

“Inquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 602 15/1/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
