Huge new housing development on the cards for Scarva

Covering an area of close to 40,000 square metres or 420,000 sq ft and with access off Main Street, details are to be unveiled at a public event in the village in August

Plans for a huge new housing development in Scarva are to be unveiled to the public in August.

Proposals for the new development – covering an area of close to 40,000 square metres or 420,000 sq ft – are in the pipeline.

And given the scale of the proposals, a pre-application notice signalling intent to develop has been lodged with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

No indication has been given at this stage as to the number of houses to be built.

What has been detailed is a “housing development with solar panels, garages, car parking, private and communal amenity space, hard and soft landscaping works, retaining structures, site works and access arrangements from Main Street”.

The site is described specifically as being on lands “10 metres north of Nos. 23-26 Moody Park, lands 50 metres east of Nos. 10, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 28, 30, 32 and 34 Main Street and lands 10 metres south of Nos. 51 and 53 Scarvagh Heights, Scarva”.

The applicant is Warrenpoint-based Kelly Brothers Ltd.

The submission of a pre-application notice is required when proposals fall within the ‘major’ category of development.

This necessitates the holding of a public information event to outline what is intended and, in the case of what is proposed for Scarva, it will be held at Sinton’s at the Bridge, on August 20, from 3pm to 7pm.

Anyone living within 250 metres of the site will also be notified in writing in August.

A website will be set up – www.scarvaconsultation.com – including live chat function and online feedback form. It is due to go line on August 13 and remain for “a period of at least 28 days”.

Political representatives – including local councillors, MLAs and MP – will be notified too.

When all feedback is considered, a full planning application would follow, taking into account all issues raised.
