Two convicted of benefit fraud at Armagh Court

Two men were convicted at Armagh Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Glenn Worton (39) of Ashlea Bend, Markethill claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £5,078 while failing to declare employment. He was given a five month prison sentence suspended for three years.

Noel Curry (56) of Rathcumber Road, Derrynoose claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Rates Relief totalling £5,454 while failing to declare employment. He was given 240 hours community service.

Both are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
