Armagh GAA star Ethan Rafferty suffered a devastating leg break during a club game on Friday night.
The Orchard county goalkeeper who, incidentally, plays outfield for his club, Grange, suffered the injury in the final moments of a clash with Lurgan side, St Peter’s.
The game was abandoned as with the ambulance called to assist.
According to Belfast Live, Rafferty also suffered a dislocated ankle.
It was the final league game of the season for both teams with the Grange already relegated, however, the championship campaign starts next month.
And while it’s a blow to the club, it will rule Rafferty out of next weekend’s All-Ireland Road Bowls finals in Eglish. Earlier this month, the talented bowler claimed an Ulster title.
It also remains to be seen whether Rafferty can make a sufficient enough recovery to begin pre-season training with Armagh side in the New Year.
Rafferty has been a standout performer for Armagh over the last two seasons and any absence next season will be keenly felt as the county aim to return to Division One.
It’s not the first time injury has halted Rafferty’s inter-county career with a cruciate knee injury ending his 2021 and before that, a serious shoulder injury 2018 cutting that season prematurely.
