Aonach Mhacha pack out March with host of creative, educational and recreational events

For the month of March cultural enterprise center, Aonach Mhacha has laid on a variety of entertainment offerings for young and old across the community.

Opened in 2020, Aonach Mhacha regenerated a derelict part of the city centre and has worked to further develop the cultural corridor between the Shambles and the ‘Cathedral Quarter’ or ‘Old Town’, making the area safer and more attractive to residents, visitors and tourists while also boosting the local economy.

All profits generated by the trading activities of Aonach Mhacha are reinvested in the Aonach Mhacha cultúrlann and in cultural, social, arts, educational, training and employment initiatives for the Armagh area.

The center promotes educational, creative arts, recreational and community development projects and would encourage one and all to attend the following March events:

Baby Bliss

Calling all mummies and babies! Take some time out for you and your baby to relax while getting a baby massage, sensory experiences and fun! A five week course starting Thursday March 2, from 11am to 12pm.

This hour long session is suitable for non-walking or crawling babies only, and is the perfect chance to make new friends and chat over some tea and coffee.

Ceol na Sióg – Gráinne Holland

The fairies are inviting us to visit the magical world around us: the natural world. You’ll find them among the flowers, hiding in tops of the trees, in the shade of the full moon or under the waves. The fairies are waiting to share their magical songs with you. Ceol na Sióg is a collection of 13 children’s songs written by Gráinne Holland about the beauty and wonder of the natural world.

Come and join the fairies on an adventure to discover the magic of the world around us.

Fadia’s Tree Movie Launch

Join us for a movie screening of Fadia’s Tree as part of Israeli Apartheid Week!

Fadia’s Tree outlines a woman dreaming of a homeland she is denied, a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, sets a challenge to find an ancient tree that stands as witness to her family’s existence, guided only by inherited memories, a blind man and a two-headed dragon.

Myra Zepf (author of the Rita books) and Mr Ando the illustrator will be there on the day to launch their new book ‘Rita agus an tEachrán’.

CapCom Go Launch i nGaeilge

We and the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium have put on an excellent show on Wednesday March 8!!

Irish Observatory Show Accessibility Launch to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, Armagh Observatory and Planetarium will be showing “CapCom Go” for the first time in English. There will be two shows:

11:30am – 13:30pm for schools only

14:00 for the public

CapCom Go is an immersive, historical documentary that shows the achievements of the Apollo program and what it took to put the first man on the Moon. It introduces a new generation to the huge challenges that have been overcome and inspires them to become explorers, designers, engineers, thinkers and dreamers for the future!

Join us and watch this show that has been translated into Irish for the first time!!!

Design and Wine

Join us in Aonach Mhacha in collaboration with Design and Wine to celebrate International Women’s day with a splash of colour! Come create your own canvas painting with a step-by-step instruction whilst sipping a glass of bubbly or drink of choice and nibbles!

Total cost is £35, just bring yourself and a few drinks. As nibbles are provided, please disclose any allergies or dietary requirements upon booking.

Wellness with Yoga

Join us everyone – it’s Seachtain na Gaeilge!!

There will be a yoga hour and a ‘Wellness with Yoga’ workshop here in Macha Fair on Monday March 14, from 19:00-21:00!

For adults of all ages and abilities, let’s all come together to discuss stress management, daily mindfulness, breathing techniques and then the yoga and meditation session – all through the medium of Irish.

There are only 20 spaces, don’t miss out!!

SASTA Project

Seachtain na Gaeilge is here and we’re feeling creative. Join us at Aonach Mhacha on Tuesday 14 and Thursday 16 March for a two-part workshop to design and sew your own Irish Sweater!

SC Embroidery will run the workshop from 16:00-18:00 on both days and will guide a group of 10 students from local secondary schools to create the perfect sweater, with an Irish word of their choice.

The workshop is £5 per person, this will cover all materials required. Book your slot quickly so you don’t miss out! Once you’ve booked your slot, email macha@aonachmhacha.com with your jumper size!
