Family Couch to 3K
Are you a fit family or a want-to-be-fit family!? Get ready to walk, jog or run with the 5-week ‘Couch to 3K’ challenge at Lurgan Park! Lace up your running shoes and join a running mentor who will guide you every step of the way to a 3K! Under 17s go free! (Mondays and Thursdays from July 15).
Love Parks Week
Celebrate all the joy parks and open spaces bring with a host of FREE family outdoor programmes. Explore majestic giants and the life cycle of trees with the ‘Tree study’ at Tannaghmore Gardens (August 13). Get out and about with Lurgan’s ‘Geology Walking Trail’ and learn about the town’s historic buildings (August 13). Portadown People’s Park (August 14) and Lurgan Park (August 15) are hosting ‘Young Conservationists’ workshops where kids can get stuck into pond dipping, bug hunting, nature walks, arts and crafts.
Younger kids can enjoy ‘Storytelling & Crafts’ sessions at the cosy setting within the Palace Stables Armagh (August 15). Oxford Island is the place to be for bird watchers with the ‘Guided Bird and Nature Walk’ – an exciting way for kids to witness the great crested Grebe and many other species as they take to the water with their young (July 3). Kinnego Hide is
offering a fantastic experience for kids to use optical equipment and bird identification resources at the ‘Guide in the Hide’ workshop (July 24 and 31).
Orienteering
Exercise your body and mind with ‘Orienteering’ at Gosford Forest Park (July 7 and 21, August 11, September 1). Have fun with the family as you navigate between checkpoints or controls marked on a special orienteering map. With no set route, use your skills and have fun trying to find the best way to go!
All Out Trekking
Explore Gosford Forest Park on wheels with ‘All Out Trekking’! All terrain buggies are suitable for both disabled and non-disabled riders (Thursdays and Saturdays July – September).
South Lake Junior Triathlon
Ready, steady, go! 8–17-year-olds can swim, bike and run within the safe and secure venue around Craigavon Lakes at the popular ‘South Lake Junior Triathlon’ (August 25)!
River Bann Family Rafted Canoe
Guided by paddlesports coaches, this is a family-friendly fun, safe and social way to explore the River Bann (July 28). Even better, no wetsuits are required, just appropriate clothing for
enjoying the outdoors and changeable weather!
Archaeology for Kids!
Delve into our ancient times and discover how our ancestors lived. Over this 3-day programme at Lurgan Park, children will learn how archaeologists excavate, try their hand at historic crafts and learn how to identify artefacts and piece together pottery.
