For the second year running, the Champions Weekend Horse and Pony races are due to be held on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3 and entrants are simply champing at the bit to see how the weekend’s racing unfolds!
Following the same format as last year, the fun filled family day out will be held in ‘the place where Champions are made’ – Moira Cross Country and Schooling Gallops.
The event’s aim is to help build and encourage the future generations of jockeys to learn their trade through the pony racing ranks and now, backed by their new event sponsor Basil Sheils’ Bar & Restaurant, organisers have boasted that the event is set to be “even bigger and better than last year”.
Saturday July 2:
- Race 1 €25: 13.2hh Pony 6F €500
- Race 2 €50: 15hh Pony race 7F €1200
- Race 3 €25: 12.2hh Pony race 7F €500
- Race 4 €50: 1M6F Open Horse €1200
- Race 5 €120: 14.2hh Derby 1 Mile (not permitted to divide) €3500
- Race 6 €100: Moira Mile Open Horse €3000
- Race 7 €50: 2 Mile Maiden €1200**
- Race 8 €60: 1 1/2 Mile Open Horse €1500
** Maidens are for horses that have never won a horse and pony race at any time.
Sunday July 3:
- Race 1 €40: 14hh Pony 7F €800
- Race 2 €60: Open Horse 1 Mile 2F €1500
- Race 3 €10: Local Pony (TB not permitted)
- Race 4 €60: 14.2hh Pony 1 Mile 2F €1500
- Race 5 €120: Open Horse Derby 2 Mile (not permitted to divide) €3500
- Race 6 €60: Open Horse Sprint 6F €1500
- Race 7 €50: 1 1/2 Mile Horse Maiden €1200
- Race 8 €50: 15hh Pony 1 1/2 Mile €1200
- Race 9 €50: Open Horse 1 Mile €1200
With some incredible prize money up for grabs, it’s sure to be a neck and neck affair!
The first race on Saturday is due to start at 2pm sharp and 1pm sharp starting time on the Sunday.
Admission £10 per adult | Under 12s go free
