Portadown Boat Club to host NI’s ‘only full regatta event’ as 19 clubs descend on Meadow Lane for day of racing

Portadown Boat Club – who hosts the only full regatta in Northern Ireland and one of the major regattas in Rowing Ireland’s calendar – are delighted to be hosting nineteen clubs from across the country at their latest regatta event.

The clubs from across the depth and breadth of Ireland will descend on the Meadow Lane Boat Club headquarters this Saturday May 3, to take part in the annual event.

It promises a packed agenda with the first competitors taking to the water at 8am. Races will run every four minutes until 16.30pm with crews across J14, J15, J16, J18,masters and club levels, rowing singles, doubles, quads, two’s, fours and eights.

Portadown have twenty-four race entries with many young (and not so young) competitors hoping to claim the medals on home waters.

There are perfect vantage points to view the 1k race along the towpath and river bank.

The catering crew as always have on offer a buffet breakfast, lunch and BBQ for hungry rowers and visitors alike with lots to choose from.

On what promises to be a glorious day, it will be a great family day out not just as a spectator sport, but it may encourage others to consider giving rowing a go.

It truly is a sport for all ages and all levels, as a low impact activity it is suitable for various fitness levels – including of course Portadown Boat Club’s super fit water wizards!

Portadown Boat Club are proud of fostering a sense of community and camaraderie and have many families from far and wide actively involved in the club, welcoming new members any time.

Come on down and enjoy the trills and spills of the side-by-side battles as crews power their way down the course, around the bends and over the line… often by a
mere bow ball! Exhilarating stuff!
