To celebrate Love Parks Week (August 12 – 16), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is hosting a range of free activities for all the family to enjoy in some of its local picturesque parks and green spaces!
Kicking off the fun on Monday August 12, is ‘Chi Me & Lite Breakfast’ at Lurgan Park! Adults can start the day the right way with a short session of relaxing exercises designed to aid muscular strength, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and relaxation, creating a wonderful sense of mental and emotional wellbeing, followed by some light morning refreshments.
Also on Monday August 12, children (6-10 years) can explore the great outdoors with the ‘Forest School Taster’ session at Scarva Park. Little hands can explore and experience rope swings, natural crafts, mud pies, worms and insects! Smaller children (aged 3+) can meet the fluffy and furry residents on a ‘Guided Tour of Tannaghmore Rare Breeds Animal Farm’ and why not visit the play park and beautiful gardens afterwards!
On Tuesday August 13, it’s time to bring it back to basics for children (4-8 years) with ‘Traditional Playground Games’, such as hopscotch, hula hoops and a scavenger hunt at The Palace Stables, Armagh. The ‘Tree Study & Nature Activities’ at Tannaghmore Gardens introduces children (6-10 years) to the giants of our countryside – trees – to learn about bark, seeds and the life cycle of trees. Tuesday’s events finish in Lurgan with a ‘Geology Walking Tour’, where participants can journey through time exploring the building stones seen in many landmarks across the town!
On Wednesday August 14, the ‘Traditional Playground Games’ for children (4-8 years) continues at Tannaghmore Gardens, with a visit to the Barn Museum for a step back in time to the olden days! People’s Park in Portadown is hosting ‘Young Conservationists’ where children (6-10 years) can enjoy pond dipping, bug hunts, nature walks and arts & crafts and this workshop will also be available at Lurgan Park on Thursday August 15! Also on Thursday August 15, is the ‘Storytelling & Craft Session’ at the Palace Stables, Armagh (for children 3-7 years). There will be a small charge of £2 per child for this activity.
Rounding off the Love Parks Week programme of events is the ‘Forest Taster School’ at Tannaghmore Gardens and Animal Farm on Friday August 16. Children (6-10 years) can connect with nature and enjoy activities in the wild with the Bushcraft team!
