The former Apache Pizza outlet at the Moy Road roundabout in Armagh looks set to be converted into apartments.
Proposals have now been drawn up and lodged with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.
The actual address of the corner property is 116 Banbrook Hill.
It has for many decades now been used as a hot food takeaway, from traditional fish and chip shop back in the 1980’s to the more recent pizza takeaway.
But now that association with serving the good folks of Armagh and passing motorists from this prominent location looks set to end.
Apache Pizza was the last tenant in the unit and it is now trading at Lower English Street in Armagh.
The premises are currently vacant and a planning application – in the name of Tony Vallely – has now been drawn up.
The applicant is seeking a change of use from the hot food bar element to provide two one-bedroom apartments.
There is already an apartment at first floor level and this would remain.
According to a supporting statement, there is a need for this type of development.
It states: “The principle of sustainability is central to this proposal. The developer is seeking to construct modern, energy efficient apartments that will have minimal heating and fuel costs for prospective occupiers.
“The development will seek to create a quality residential environment and will assist with the delivery of quality and affordable modern housing in an area that has experienced little private sector investment in recent years.
“This proposal for two ground floor apartments will remain in keeping with the context and character of the surrounding area.”
The statement assures that “only minor alterations” will be required to the existing building for a development which is “likely to make a positive impact upon the character and appearance” of the area.
