A county Armagh man has been sentenced to seven months in prison following a violent assault in Belfast City Centre at the weekend.
Glenn Flynn was filmed taking part in a prolong physical attack on the victim in the Castle Street area of the city on Sunday.
The 24-year-old admitted common assault and disorderly behaviour but denied throwing any punches.
Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard how Flynn, a former Armagh GAA underage player, had a “terrible” criminal record, with his actions fuelled by his addiction to alcohol.
His lawyer stated that as a youngster his client had ambitions of going on to play for the Armagh senior team but alcohol simply got the better of him.
The court also heard how his stepfather hopes he will take over the running of his farm in Armagh some day.
Flynn was given a four month jail term for the weekend’s offences and another three on top of the terms from a suspended sentence he was currently serving prior to the assault.
