A driver who caused the death of teenager Lesley-Ann McCarragher in Armagh three years ago has had his sentence reduced on appeal.
Nathan Finn, 20, of Keady Road, Armagh, was jailed for nine years last summer but has today (Wednesday) seen that sentence reduced by one year to eight.
Lesley-Ann, who was 19, was struck by a car while she was out jogging along the hard shoulder of the Monaghan Road in Armagh city – just a few miles from her home – on April 9, 2016.
It was argued that the nine year sentence did not take into account Finn’s previous good character and remorse for his actions.
Finn initially denied all charges against him, but later accepted causing death by dangerous driving and causing death whilst driving without a licence or insurance.
Co-defendant, Damien Paul McCann, of Lagan Road, Keady was fined £500 and banned from driving for two years.
He had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after the charge of causing death by dangerous driving were dropped.
Eye-witnesses at the time said the pair appeared to be racing each other along the road.
The family are expected to release a statement shortly.
