Nine-year-old Jai to climb Snowdon to help Armagh Food Bank feed hungry

Proud mum Carolyn sets up gofundme page to help son help others

A Markethill schoolboy is setting his sights on climbing the highest mountain in Wales to raise money to help others less fortunate.

Jai McKinney is only nine years of age.

But, come October, he will be putting his best foot forward as he aims to reach the peak of Mount Snowdon – an incredible 3,560 feet or 1,085 metres.

And the selfless young man – a P5 pupils at Markethill Primary School – will be doing it all to raise money for the Armagh Food Bank.

Jai’s proud mum Carolyn has set up a gofundme page and hopes that the good people of Armagh will dig deep and sponsor her son in support of a very worthy cause.

The Armagh Food Bank is based out of the Elim Church on the Portadown, and has offered a helping hand – a veritable lifeline – to so many people over these past few years.

Carolyn is delighted that he has made it his focus to make such a big difference and wants to help others.

She told Armagh I : “I am very proud of him. He is a wonderful boy.”

The kind-hearted schoolboy was moved to act in support of those who need it most.

“Jai wants to raise money for Armagh Food Bank because they help those having hard times in our community and they need funds,” explained Carolyn.

“Jai feels no-one should go hungry especially in our own community.

“Armagh Food Bank provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

“They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.”

Having already hiked Ben Nevis over Easter, Jai is up for the challenge.

And this time round he will be seeking donations via gofundme for the Armagh Food Bank.

“Please sponsor him – anything you can spare will go to help this amazing charity in our community,” Carolyn added.

Please show your support by visiting the gofundme link below  here and the Armagh Food Bank website or Facebook page to see how your money will help make in your local community.
