Shop units at former Jet filling station near completion and ready for tenants

Plans accepted for retail units on the Newry Road, Armagh

Four new retail units on the site of a former filling station in Armagh are nearing completion with tenants now being sought.

The units – at the site of the former Jet Filling Station at Newry Road – should be ready for occupancy early in the New Year, it is understood.

The four – consisting of between 484 sq ft and 1936 sq ft – sit just back off the main thoroughfare with parking facilities for shoppers and passing motorists included.

It was in April last year when Armagh I revealed the proposal to redevelop the old Jet Filling Station had been lodged with planners.

Approval was later given to the applicant, the Moy-based NR Properties (Armagh) Ltd.

A subsequent planning application – to allow for two of the units to be amalgamated into one to accommodate a hot food takeaway – came back to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council with an opinion to refuse.

The new units are being offered for a rent in the region of £10,000 per annum.

The agent dealing with the tenancy arrangements is Lambert, Smith, Hampton, which states: “The retail units will be finished to standard developers shell specification with services installed to a consumer point.”

The former Jet Filling Station was popular in the 1980s particularly and the site had included a video rental shop.

Most recently before this development it had been operated as a 24-hour ‘pay at the pump’ fuel facility, which was dismantled to make way for the new shops.

The agent – in its marketing materials – adds: “The subject site is located on the Newry Road which is the main road entering Armagh City.

“This location offers excellent frontage on to the busy Newry Road with high volumes of vehicular passing.”
