A man who struck another car as it made a right hand turn, whilst uninsured and unlicensed, has been handed a six month disqualification.
Court heard that the 40-year-old made admissions during police interview and told them he was driving as his friend, who owned the vehicle, was “very drunk”.
Arunas Jokubauskis, of Church Street in Keady, pleaded guilty to driving without due care or attention, using a vehicle without insurance and no driving licence at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
Prosecution outlined that on February 26, at 8.45am, police received a report of a two vehicle collision on the Keady Road, Armagh.
A Volkswagen Golf, which had been indicating to turn right, was struck by a Peugeot attempting to overtake it as the manoeuvre was performed.
Officers spoke to the driver of the Peugeot, who was identified as this defendant, and he made admission to not having a licence.
He was subsequently arrested and during interview at Lurgan Custody Suite made full admissions to the offences before the court.
Jokubauskis told police that he had been driving as his friend, who owned the vehicle, was “very drunk”.
The defendant, who represented himself in court, made no comments in mitigation.
District Judge Bernie Kelly disqualified Jokubauskis from driving for a period of six months and ordered that he pay a fine of £350, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
