A South Regional College lecturer was unable to pay a fixed speeding penalty due to the “white heat” of marking students’ papers, a court has heard.
The 59-year-old, from Silverwood Court, Lurgan, pleaded guilty at Armagh Magistrates’ on Tuesday to excess speed.
The incident occurred on May 4, last year, police pulled the defendant over on the Tandragee Road driving at a speed of 41mph in a 30mph zone.
He failed to pay the fixed penalty at the time, or within the seven days which police offered.
Court heard that the defendant had no live points on his licence.
Defence counsel stated that at the time their was under pressure to mark papers at the time, which led to him missing the time to pay the fine.
District Judge Paul Copeland fined the defendant £60 – the value of the fixed fine – along with the offender’s levy of £15.
He also received three penalty points on his licence.
