Work on a major sewer-laying scheme in Armagh will be completed next week when the final phase is carried out.
The £1.4 million project by NI Water began in May 2019 and included the construction of a new wastewater pumping station at Killylea Road.
Now the work is described by NI Water as being “substantially compete”, with a final section of sewer relining to be finished off.
This section will begin on Irish Street this coming Monday, June 22, and will take one day to complete.
In order to undertake these works safely, it will be necessary to have a one-way closure on Irish Street (country bound).
This will be in place between the junctions of St Malachy’s Link Road and Ogle Street. A diversion route will be in place during this time.
In order to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and commuters as far as possible, this work will be undertaken outside of peak hours, between 9.30am and 4pm
An NI Water spokesperson said: “Vehicular access for local residents and businesses will be maintained as far as possible during the road closure, with pedestrian access available at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place around the working area.
“NI Water has been identified as an essential service provider in response to COVID-19 and the Government has officially designated our workforce as ‘key workers’ in a critical public service.
“NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering appreciate that this work is disruptive and would like to thank the public for their continued patience as we complete these essential improvement works.
“We are all practising social distancing – our priority is to keep customers and colleagues safe. So please keep your distance and our workers will carry on with their essential work for you.”
