A Banbridge man accused of sexually assaulting a female is to face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
The 24-year-old appeared at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Thursday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Conor Martin, of Aghaderg Road, is charged with a single count of sexual assault.
As the charge was read, it was heard that the offence is alleged to have been committed by the defendant on May 24, of last year.
Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, Martin made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Barry McKenna made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer and the defendant was released on his own bail of £1,000 to appear before Newry Crown Court on August 31 for arraignment.
