A man who damaged a back gate and a post box whilst intoxicated has been handed a suspended sentence.
Court heard the 21-year-old told police he could not remember the incident due to the level of his intoxication.
Kalvin Cull, of Chestnut Place, Banbridge pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage at the Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Newry – on Thursday.
It was heard that on December 18, at 5pm, police received a report from the injured party that a male had gained entry to her property by kicking a rear gate.
He then began shouting and swearing. The injured party managed to get the male out and their son followed him to Chestnut Place.
Whilst he followed, the injured party’s son observed the male rip a post box from the wall of another address.
At 5.50pm, police spotted a male that matched the description given on Chestnut Place; he was arrested and identified himself as the defendant.
During interview, Cull made full admissions but claimed he could not recall the incident as he had been highly intoxicated.
He apologised and offered to repay the damage he had caused.
Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare stated that it was hoped Cull would be present to make the reparations but this was not the case.
The defendant was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for two years and ordered to pay compensation of £60 within four weeks.
