A 13-year-old boy is in a stable condition after being struck by a car in south Armagh.
The young boy was rushed to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after being hit on the main road through the village around 3pm today.
Emergency services were tasked to the scene, as was the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance.
The Belfast Trust has confirmed the boy is in a stable condition at present.
The road remains closed this evening and diversions are in place.
Traffic heading to Newtownhamilton is being diverted along Chapel Road.
All cars and light vans coming from Newtownhamilton are being directed along Chapel Lane, past St Malachy’s Park onto Chapel Road.
All heavy goods traffic is advised to avoid Camlough altogether and use A class roads to reach destinations for the next few hours at least, according to police.
A PSNI spokesperson appealed for witnesses to this afternoon’s incident, saying: “Police would like to speak to anyone in the area in and around 3pm who witnessed a collision occur where by a young male was struck by a vehicle.
“If you do have information contact us on 101 and say you’re calling in respect of serial 841 of today’s date.”
Local Sinn Fein councillor Roisin Mulgrew appealed for motorists to be patient.
She said: “I would appeal for motorists if possible at all avoid Camlough village. Those caught up in the diversions should have patience, drive carefully and follow the instructions of the emergency services who are managing the situation at present.
“Anyone who witnessed this incident should contact the PSNI”
