A Craigavon man who got himself on the “right path” during a deferred sentence by finding employment has been sentenced to community service.
The district judge told the 26-year-old: “With that push in the right direction I hope not to see you again.”
Matthew Creaney, of Lakeview Court, appeared for sentencing charged with disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Upon reading the report, District Judge Bernie Kelly commented: “Brilliant, the first line it is amazing what the routine of a job can do for you, even with his positivity.”
Defence barrister Ciara Ennis stated: “This defendant was given a chance and he took it.
“He is seeing the benefits of this both on a personal level and a health level.”
District Judge Kelly said: “It shows that getting yourself on the right path and distancing yourself from other factors can make a huge difference.”
Ms Ennis commented: “He consents to both community service and probation. This could help in assisting him even further.”
District Judge Kelly stated: “I had used the phrase no alcohol. You have an addictive personality, I suggest you pack in alcohol as well.”
Creaney was handed a combination order consisting of 80 hours of community service and 12 months of probation.
District Judge Kelly told the defendant: “With that push in the right direction I hope not to see you again”.
