Postal worker accused of stealing 1,000 Viagra tablets faces hard times after resigning job

A Craigavon man accused of stealing an iPhone and 1,000 Viagra tablets has been up in front of court.

The 34-year-old’s solicitor told court that the defendant had resigned from his employment with Parcelforce due to the alleged incident.

Jonathon Morrow, of Drumbeg, appeared charged with two counts of theft and two counts of interfering with mail as a postal operator at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

As the charges were read out, it was heard that the defendant was alleged to have, on a date unknown and March of this year, interfered with mail.

Morrow is accused of stealing an iPhone, worth £1,200, on March 27 and 1,000 Sildenafil Citrate tablets, commonly known as Viagra, to the value of £1,000.

Standing in the dock, the defendant confirmed that he understood the charges which he faced.

A constable stated that he believed he could connect Morrow to the alleged offences.

Defence solicitor Philip Reid made no question to this.

Prosecution applied for an adjournment until January 15 for an update on the file in the case and this was granted.

Whilst making a legal aid application, Mr Reid stated: “He worked for Parcelforce and it was during the course of his employment there which this is alleged to have occurred. He has since been suspended.

“He spoke to his employers who advised him to resign. He did so but has had difficulties signing on for benefits for the first three months due to his resigning and he has no income at the moment.”

District Judge Mark McGarrity reserved legal aid in the case.
