He was released on continuing bail to appear at Craigavon Crown Court on in February

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A man who is accused of assaulting a female on more than one occasion and making threats to kill her will face Crown Court proceedings in the New Year.

The 46-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Jason Veitch, of Bristol Park in Newtownards, is charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of common assault and threats to kill.

As the charged were read, it was heard that on an unknown date between February 20 and March 10, of last year, the defendant was alleged to have assaulted a female.

On April 16, of last year, Veitch was accused of assaulting the same woman and of having made threats to kill her.

The defendant is further alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously attempted to cause grievous bodily harm to her on April 16.

Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, Veitch made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister Aaron Thompson made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Bernie Kelly, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released the defendant on continuing bail to appear at Craigavon Crown Court on February 3.
