A Craigavon man who acted aggressively towards staff and police at an A&E department wrote a letter of apology following the incident, court has heard.
The 22-year-old’s solicitor said: “This is a young man with quite a good education behind him but his health has not been great in that last year or two.”
Connor Flynn, of Twinem Court, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on September 20, police received a report of an aggressive male in the A&E department of Craigavon Area Hospital.
Upon arrival, officers introduced themselves to the man, identified as the defendant. He reacted by shouting at police and others in the area.
Flynn continued to be aggressive, this despite officers asking him to calm down and not shout as he was in a hospital.
The defendant then clenched his fist and walked towards police, he was subsequently restrained and arrested.
Prosecution stated that Flynn had attended the hospital as he was seeking medical attention.
Defence solicitor Conor Downey stated: “This is a young man with quite a good education behind him but his health has not been great in that last year or two.
“He does have the support of his family and he is in a relationship with a young lady which seems to be improving his life.”
He continued: “I have a copy of a letter for the court which he sent to the staff at the hospital to apologise. He had been at the hospital due to mental health difficulties.”
Deputy District Judge Gerard Trainor said: “Mr Flynn, the court promotes a zero tolerance to this sort of behaviour in hospitals, but I have listened to what Mr Downey has said on your behalf.
“You come before the court with no record and also took it upon yourself to apologise to the hospital without the court having to instruct such.”
The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £100, along with the offender’s levy of £15 within 10 weeks.
