A Lurgan man who claimed he uses cannabis to “help him get to sleep” has been fined for possession.
Gary Toman, of Monbrief Walk, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court was told the drugs were found when the defendant was stopped in a car on William Street, Lurgan, at around 4pm on May 14.
When told by officers that he was to be searched, 29-year-old Toman produced a bag of suspected herbal cannabis to police.
Court heard that the drug was later weighed and found to be around 12.3 grams.
The defendant had to be taken to a hospital shortly after the discovery as he became unwell.
On June 12 an interview was conducted during which Toman admitted to possession.
Defence solicitor Pat Vernon said his client suffered from “anxiety and depression”, with him using the drug to “help him get to sleep”.
Toman was ordered to pay a fine of £350, along with the offender’s levy of £15 within 12 weeks.
